Cardio Art by JoseV - Rythmic Designs to Inspire Your Heart
Testimonials

José Vasquez has taken his passion for his job and turned it into an art form. As a cardiac monitoring technician in the Central Monitoring Unit, Vasquez monitors the heart rhythms of cardiac patients and watches for any abnormal rhythms, and this became the inspiration for his drawings and paintings. Although he began drawing at a young age, Vasquez “lost track” of it as he grew older and started working. That is, until inspiration returned while he was monitoring a patient who went into a deadly rhythm.  “This patient was going through so many deadly arrhythmias, and I had never seen anything like that in all the years I had been a technician,” he says. “So I started thinking about what could be going through his mind at that time, as he was fighting for his life, and as doctors were trying to save him.”  Soon after, Vasquez drew a heart, surrounded by faces and heads, each of which represented one of the arrhythmias. He considers the work, named “Slow Death,” his signature drawing. Now Vasquez is planning his first art show from 7 p.m.-11 p.m. on Friday, April 25, 2006 at the Artist Review Today (in the Galleria, 1301 E. 9th St .).  Complete with Tango dancing, music and beverages, Vasquez says it may not be a “traditional” art show, but it will be an inspiration.

Dear Jose, I've enjoyed reading your story very much, especially the part about your artwork and the unusual way that you expressed yourself on a canvas. I too am an artist, but I don't take the time to actually create and recreate anything.

I just want to say, no matter how big an art show is, it's ART and it's the picture, act, song or dance that is the reflection of one's self and their thoughts and feelings. Congrats, it's hard out here in the art world and to make a statement and to be able to show people how you express yourself is a lucky thing, so keep up the great work and good LUCK!!!!!
-Cindy Chalabian

Congratulations on being recognized for your contribution to healthcare. As I was growing up in Lorain, Ohio, which has a very large population of Hispanics, one of the things that was always said in the community was that we Hispanics have to stick together. I agree that is true, but how is it that we go about sticking together? How I have grown to understand that mentality is: We as Hispanics have to build on what our parents stated when they immigrated. The way we build on that is to involve ourselves in the mainstream of the American culture and impact the work force. That is how I understand sticking togeter. You being recognized re-enforces that understanding to me. Thank you.
